Aftercare with Second Skin / Saniderm

If you’ve applied Saniderm, please leave it on for no more than 4-5 days. During this time, blood, ink, and plasma may accumulate beneath the bandage, which can cause the tattoo to form an "ink sac" or appear blurry. This is completely normal. However, if the edges of the bandage start to peel near the tattoo or if you notice any breaks in the bandage, it’s best to remove it.

Saniderm is designed to stay in place during showers as long as you avoid scrubbing directly over it. When it's time to remove the Saniderm, do so gently under warm water, slowly peeling it off to minimize discomfort.

Once the Saniderm is off, wash and moisturize your tattoo at least twice a day until it's fully healed. Be sure to wash it with CLEAN hands and unscented antibacterial soap. Gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel, then apply a thin layer of ointment. Aquaphor, Lubriderm, or Aveeno are all great choices. For something a little more luxurious, I recommend Hustlebutter!

To avoid contamination, please ensure all products used for aftercare are in pump or squeeze bottles.

Things to be aware of as your tattoo heals..

  • Avoid exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight / tanning

  • No bathtubs, swimming pools, sauna, or hot tubs. Showers are ok, but your new tattoo should not be soaking in any bodies of water as it heals.

  • Avoid working out for at least 3-4 days (preferably a week) after getting your tattoo.

  • Do not pick, peel, or scratch your tattoo. Try light taps around the area instead!

  • Do not rebandage your tattoo, you want to let the tattoo breathe.
